What’s it all about, Steve?
I’ll cut to the chase straight away: I’m the author of a novel called ‘Floating In Space’ set in Manchester in 1977 and I publish a weekly blog post available every Saturday about 10:00 am UK time which I hope will keep you entertained. Click the blog link at the top of the page to read them!
The blogs are full of anecdotes, stories and observations about life in general, usually linked to shameless plugs of my book. Sometimes they are just shameless plugs of my book. Incidentally it’s now available in paperback! Get the picture? Yes, my weekly blog posts are just a shockingly blatant marketing ploy, a brazen attempt to lure you into the clutches of my web page and get you to buy my book.
I like to think of Floating In Space as a sort of kitchen sink drama for the seventies. Remember ‘Saturday Night and Sunday Morning’ set in the fifties and ‘A kind of Loving’ set in the sixties? Floating In Space is a similar kind of thing but set in the seventies.
Here’s me reading the opening paragraph:
What about your Blog?
Well, I know I said earlier that my blog is a brazen marketing ploy but let’s get serious, it’s actually a regular blog with new posts every Saturday taking a look at the lighter side of life, and when I say life, I usually mean mine. Not only that, it’s not always light stuff; I do get serious sometimes.
I also write about books and movies and I hope you’ll enjoy reading and sign up for a regular post from me, then buy my book (come on, you knew there was going to be a catch!)
Take a shufty over to the left at the ‘previously on Steve’s Blog’ section and you’ll see the sort of things I write about. If you scroll down further you can even sort my posts by subject.
Carry on to hear more about my novel Floating In Space, what it’s about and some stuff about me and my new poetry anthology A Warrior of Words.
If you fancy something a little more visual, here’s my website encapsulated into a short video:
Who am I?
I’m from Manchester in the North West of England and I’m a writer who has taken advantage of 21st century digital developments to get published. I’ve had a few of my poems published in anthologies and my novel ‘Floating In Space‘ is available as a Kindle e-book or a paperback.
What sort of things are you going to find in my blog posts? Well, I like Formula One racing, movies, especially classic movies and I’m at my happiest with the TV remote in my hand watching something like ‘Casablanca.’
I read a shed load of books when I’ve got the time and my ambition, apart from wanting a shed (for my shed load of books) is to lie in the sun, near to a swimming pool and a bar and read even more. I’m pretty sociable and I do like dining out, in fact, I think dining out is one of the great experiences in life.
Even if we don’t have any of these things in common, we can still be friends, especially if you buy my book!
To be quite frank, my blog posts cover almost anything I can think of and write about but mainly they are about books, films, television and me and my little old life.
As I’ve now managed to acquire some experience of writing and blogging I’ve even tried to impart some of my writing knowledge in a few ‘how to’ posts. Scroll right down and on the left you will see my posts by subject.
So you’re just plugging your books then?
Well, I wouldn’t say just plugging my books, you get to read my posts completely free. Of course, if you want to read either my novel or my poetry anthology then put your hand in your pocket and buy it. If you are interested in poetry, here’s a video clip of one of my poems which incidentally, was recently selected by Think Shorts.
My posts are mostly anecdotes but I write about all sorts of stuff that catches my eye. There’s also plenty about two of the great loves in my life, books and classic movies, so expect to see a whole lot of stuff about my movie and writing heroes and I’ll try not to bore you too much.
Just to give you a little taster about my book ‘Floating In Space’, here’s another video. In this one I make a return trip to Manchester in 2017 and talk about what inspired me to write the book and take you on a nostalgic trip around a few of the real life Manchester locations mentioned in the text.
